Brady sends good luck wishes to the six Wicklow Olympians who will represent Ireland in Paris at the Olympic Games

Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady spoke today of his pride and confidence in the six Wicklow athletes who have travelled to Paris to represent Ireland in the Olympic Games.

Vicky Elmes Kinlan from Rathnew is representing Ireland in the Rugby Sevens, Lara Gillespie from Enniskerry in Cycling, Erin King from Blessington also in the Rugby Sevens, Fionnuala McCormack from Kilcoole in Athletics, Daina Moorehouse from Bray is following in the footsteps of Wicklow and Irish boxing legend Kathy Taylor in Boxing, and Lucy Rock from Tinahely is the third member of the Rugby Sevens from the Garden County.

Brady said:

“It is an exceptional day for a county such as our own here in Wicklow to have six Olympians travel to Paris to represent our country on the greatest sporting stage of them all.

I could not be prouder of these athletes or of my county. And I want to wish them the very best of luck in their endeavours.

They have already done our county proud by the sheer fact of qualifying for participation.

They are the role models that our country and society needs, now more than ever. Their examples are an inspiration to us all, but especially young people.

Like everybody around Wicklow I will be watching their progress closely, and hoping with all my heart to see them on the winners podium, before we welcome them home as the heroes they already are.
